Golf Course Superintendent
The Iron ClubThis project is in development to become one of the premier 18-hole tournament-caliber golf courses located in Sudbury, Ontario, the hub of Northern Ontario. Currently under active construction, the course is being built entirely in house, providing direct involvement in shaping, infrastructure installation, irrigation, drainage, and turf establishment. Designed to championship standards, the course emphasizes strategic playability, elite conditioning, and resilient systems capable of hosting competitive events. As the project transitions from construction to grow-in and opening, the long-term vision is to establish a flagship Northern Ontario facility with the ability to host high-level provincial, national, and international tournaments while delivering a consistent and excelent playing experience for all golfers.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Golf Course Superintendent to lead all agronomic operations during the critical grow-in phase and into full golf course operations at a new championship-caliber 18-hole facility. This is a rare opportunity to play a key leadership role in the establishment of a premier tournament-capable golf course built to championship standards. The Superintendent will be responsible for delivering elite playing conditions, implementing best-in-class agronomic programs, and building a high-performing maintenance team from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities
Grow-In Phase
- Lead all aspects of turfgrass establishment, including seeding, sodding, fertility, irrigation scheduling, mowing programs, and plant health monitoring
- Develop and execute grow-in plans to ensure optimal turf density, uniformity, and long-term health
- Monitor and manage irrigation systems to promote efficient water use and consistent turf development
- Establish fertility, pest management, and cultural practice programs aligned with sound agronomic principles
- Work closely with construction and ownership teams to ensure proper finishing, drainage performance, and turf readiness
- Recruit, train, and supervise grow-in maintenance staff
Operational Phase
- Oversee all golf course maintenance operations including greens, tees, fairways, rough, bunkers, and practice facilities
- Maintain championship-level conditioning standards on a daily basis
- Develop and manage annual operating budgets, equipment plans, and agronomic programs
- Lead, train, and manage maintenance staff to ensure operational efficiency and professional development
- Ensure irrigation, drainage, and infrastructure systems operate at peak performance
- Prepare the golf course for tournaments and high-level competitive play
- Implement sustainable agronomic practices to ensure long-term turf health and environmental stewardship

Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or related field
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent, preferably including grow-in experience
- Strong knowledge of cool-season turfgrass management practices
- Proven leadership and team management abilities
- Experience with irrigation system management and agronomic planning
- Ability to operate and maintain turf maintenance equipment
- Valid driver’s license

- Grow-in experience at a new golf course facility
- Experience preparing courses for competitive tournaments
- Pesticide applicator certification (or ability to obtain)
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
