Job Summary

Reporting to the Head Chef and Sous Chefs, the First Cook plays a meaningful role in shaping the Member dining experience. This position suits a cook who takes personal pride in their work and finds motivation in contributing to something distinctive. You’ll be trusted with responsibility, encouraged to bring ideas forward, and supported by a close-knit team.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare wise en place with accuracy and in a timely manner
  • Execute menu items according to club standards and recipes
  • Prepare entrees on the hot line during service
  • Support and guide line cooks during service as required
  • Lead a la carte lunch services if Chef or Sous Chef are unavailable
  • Ensure compliance with Ontario food safety, sanitation, and workplace health and safety requirements
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workstation
  • Assist with putting away orders and maintaining a well-organized walk-in fridge, freezer and dry storage

Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of professional cooking experience; golf club, hotel, or high-volume experience considered an asset
  • Culinary diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • Valid Food Handler Certification required
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and safe kitchen practices
  • Strong knife skills and familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment
  • Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling, etc.)
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Reliable, team-oriented, and professional approach to work.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of professional experience as cook is an asset
  • Experience in using cutting tools, cookware and bakeware
  • Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)
  • Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Very good communication skills
  • Physical condition and stamina

Compensation

  • $23-$25 per hour commensurate with experience
  • Gratuity Pool
  • End of Season Bonus upon successful completion of contract.
