JOB OVERVIEW

Big Sky Golf Club is seeking a dedicated, high-energy Golf Course Assistant Superintendent to join our turf management team. In this role, you are a key architect of the player experience. You will work side-by-side with our Superintendent to oversee daily operations, lead a diverse maintenance crew, and ensure the course remains in excellent condition. You will also be responsible for the staff scheduling and training, overseeing fertility and pesticide programs, and ensuring proper operations of the irrigation system. The successful candidate must be available to work varied hours.

This position plays a key role in managing exceptional course conditions and delivering an outstanding experience for your staff, our members and guests.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Golf Course Maintenance

• Oversee turf nutrient programs, pesticide applications, irrigation practices, and cultural practices.
• Manage and optimize the irrigation system to ensure peak turf health and water efficiency.
• Perform daily course audits to identify and resolve any maintenance issues, ensuring immediate correction and reporting to the Superintendent.

Team Leadership

• Provide leadership for the golf maintenance team members.
• Organize and delegate work schedules, set forth by the Superintendent.
• Supervise, manage and train turf maintenance staff on daily operations and the safe use of all equipment.
• Attend and assist/lead staff meetings and line ups for each day.
• Report and recommend any changes to procedures or training to the Superintendent.
• Ensure the team is well-informed with Big Sky’s operations so they can answer guest questions.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 2–4 years of experience in golf course turf maintenance, with previous supervisory experience preferred
• Post-secondary training in Turfgrass Management would be an asset, though not required
• Strong understanding of irrigation systems, calibrate spreaders/sprayers, and operation of specialized turf equipment
• Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to lead a diverse team in varying weather conditions
